HydroplasTM is a product family of thermoplastic polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) in granular form made by melt extrusion pelleting process. SC706 belongs to the Hydorplasä family and is eligible for the processes operated on a general melt extrusion machinery. In particular, SC706 provides an excellent oxygen barrier layer in a laminated film product (OTR<0.5cm3/m2.day.atm, 23°C, 0%RH).

Pre-drying: SC706 inherits the PVOH’s nature property absorbing moisture once exposed to ambient environment. It is recommended to dry the SC706 pellets at 90-100°C for at least 2 hours. It is also suggested to examine the moisture content prior to applying on to an extruder. The acceptable maximum moisture content for processing is less than 0.3%.
Thermoprofile: SC706 is recommended to be processed under a thermoprofile ranging 190°C to 200°C and shall not exceed 220°C.
The general residence time in melt extrusion process is suggested to be within 5-8 minutes. Yellowish extrudate may indicate thermolysis caused by prolonged residence time or overheating. Once if the sigh showing the risk of thermolysis, it is recommended to completely purge out the material in the barrel and adjust the thermoprofile for further processing.
Material changing and cleaning: Prior to applying SC706 onto a material feeding device, it is suggested to purge the extruder with a polyolefin resin (such as LDPE or PP) exhibiting a higher melt flow index. In subsequence, the residual polyolefin needs to be purged out completely with SC706 prior to initiating the production processes.
For cleaning after use, it is suggested to purge the extruder with the polyolefin resin exhibiting low melt flow index until the residual SC706 completely purged out.
Storage: The original unopened package shall be stored indoor in appropriately dry environment. The unused SC706 pellets exposed to air shall be stored in a sealed moisture barrier bag. It is highly recommended to examine the moisture content prior to processing.
